Tuesday Treasures

A trip to the library ~

Alex figured out how to play some fun learning games on the cool computers

Gabe with his new library card - he was thrilled (really!)

Seth quickly found books he can't wait to start reading

Interesting things to know about the Jensen boys and books:

Gabe has already finished reading one of the books he checked out today - 39 Clues: The Viper's Nest - with 190 pages, in 2 hours and 20 minutes!

Seth received an award at the end of the year for checking out the most books from the library at his school this year!

Alex also loves to read. Tonight he read a scripture for the missionaries!

An escape from the heat ~

Does this place look familiar to any of my kids?

Next time I'm jumping in too!

Flashback Photos
August 2007 ~ As I was making travel plans to head to Korea 5 years ago when Alex was born, Hyuna really wanted me to wait until he was a month old so that we could do a bit of traveling. I had no idea what a treat was in store. We stayed in a mud hut on a small island in the south of Korea. A man had built it by hand, a replica of the mud houses commonly used by farmers centuries ago. His artistry and sense of humor were everywhere. All the work is his own, including the handcarved pieces. He had a career as a graphic design artist in a large city but gave up that life to become an inn keeper. He manages the inn and his parents farm the land.  Hyuna found out about the place doing an on-line search, and I can't imagine that we could have had a more unique and wonderful experience. I tried to choose just one or two pictures that would do justice to this exquisite place but decided that was impossible. I loved being able to relive this very special adventure with Sven, Hyuna and the 3 Musketeers.

Our room was the one in the forefront

Rice paper door and unique locking mechanism

We all slept like babes, oh yes we did.
Look how tiny Alex is!

Ceiling detail

Did you realize this was a window when you saw it from the outside in the 2nd picture above?

Outside our door: mud shoes and a soup pot. Hyuna explained that the farm wives would keep water simmering all day over a little fire, adding vegetables and meats during the day

Look closely and you will see that a bird has made it's nest in the ceramic pot

Water garden right outside our door

Communal kitchen

Kimchi garden

The chicken coop had a garden of squash growing over it!

I want this mailbox....

....and this gate with the gatekeeper!

It was hard to tell the natives and the tourists apart

The owner's workshop - even the way he displays his mudboots is artistic!

Rice paddies

Saying good-bye to our talented and gracious host.
(I think it's pretty cool that Sven and I were the first Caucasians to stay there!)
