Fall Fiesta

Three years ago our ward revamped the traditional Halloween Party into a much bigger and very festive Fall Fiesta. It uses all of the ball field for games and activities, dinner is served in the court yard, a mad scientist's lab is set up in the church, and Trunk or Treating circles the entire parking lot. Last night Avery and Kris joined me for a fun evening, Kris coming along only because Avery asked him if he would go with her :)

Lots of important people came:
Captain Hook

Superman

Batman and the Batmobile

Buzzing Bumblebee

Snoopy & Charlie Brown

The Skeleton Family

A select cast from 'Clue' ~ Mrs. Peacock is guilty - in the kitchen, with the candlestick

Nacho Libra ~ who needs their mask & cape when playing a game of bean bag toss?

Avery had no interest in bobbing for apples or trying her luck at the fish pond. After making her new friend Nacho aka Eli while playing the bean bag toss, she headed straight for the obstacle course.

Jump!

She decided if she couldn't jump over it she would carry it with her through the 'cave'

Heading to the finish line.
And then we did it again. And again. And again!

She didn't know what to think of this game of tug-o-war

Checking on Uncle Kris

And then she found her greatest joy!
She loved throwing wet sponges point blank at the target, and nobody seemed to mind that she was right in the middle of their game.

And then she figured out that she could BE the target!
Nobody wanted to peg that cute little face, but I assured them she knew what it was all about. The first hit surprised her a little bit, and then she started laughing hysterically.
She absolutely loved it!

We tried to hitch a ride on the Batmobile but arrived just as the last ride ended. She was unfazed.
The call for Trunk or Treating came and everyone ran to the parking lot.

When I asked her if she wanted to go get some candy she said, "No," rubbed her belly and said that candy would make her sick. Ayrel told me later that they had just read her a book about how eating too much candy will make your stomach hurt.

Instead, she ran back to the sponge game.
Fortunately the Elders were still close by, and the game continued.

She decided it would be OK to Trunk or Treat a little bit so that daddy could have some candy. We made a trip to see the Mad Scientist's Lab where she developed a love/hate relationship with a giant electronic bug, which she had to show Uncle Kris. By then she and Uncle "Tris" were both ready to head home.
Fun times at 400 Rosemont! The Fall Fiesta almost makes up for no longer having the fabulous 4th of July celebrations from years past.
